Shriver Center underscored the urgency of protecting Illinois from the Trump Administration's efforts to weaken Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
Due to successful advocacy from the Shriver Center on Poverty Law during the 2019 legislative session, Illinois lawmakers passed several measures affirming the state’s commitment to protecting healthcare access for all. Among them are a resolution from the Illinois Senate pledging to protect critical programs like Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act as the federal government continues its attempts to weaken them.
The Shriver Center also championed a successful bill that will prevent people covered by Medicaid from temporarily losing their healthcare coverage due to paperwork delays. The measure allows for more automatic Medicaid renewals so recipients don’t have recurring gaps in their coverage and also makes it easier for people to secure Medicaid coverage in the first place.
Healthcare is a human right. The high cost of care means millions of families have no access to the critical care all human beings deserve.
