Adult Student's Guide to Public Benefits in Illinois. Education is a critical resource for low-income adults looking to gain financial stability. Students who receive necessary support and assistance while in school are more likely to finish school, start their careers, and establish financial security. The Shriver Center’s new manual, Getting Ahead: An Adult Student’s Guide to Public Benefits in Illinois is intended to help both current and future college students and participants in job training programs determine whether they qualify for public benefits or services and how to apply for assistance.
